2015 Perth Mint Lunar Goat 10 oz Silver Coin
The Australian Lunar series II of coins epitomizes the Perth Mint's rich tradition of minting bullion coins portraying Chinese Lunar themes. Composed of 10 oz of .999 pure silver, each coin weighs 311g, has a diameter of 85.60mm and is released with an unlimited mintage. The reverse design of this year's release marks the 2015 Year of the Goat, one of the 12 animals associated with the ancient Chinese lunar calendar and the eighth coin in this series.
In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Goat – 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003 and 2015 - are said to be charming, shy, sympathetic, elegant, artistic and calm.
Designed by Natasha Muhl, each coin’s reverse depicts a family of three goats standing in a stylised rural scene. The Chinese character for ‘goat’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Goat’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2015 year-date and monetary denomination are shown on the obverse of each coin.
